The following obituary appeared in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on August 19, 2010: RICHARD LEE BUTLER, 72, of Mabelvale passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Hospice Home Care Center in Little Rock. He was born on Oct. 21, 1937, in Little Rock; he was the son of Hoyt A. Butler and Ruby Turley Butler. Richard was a retired Highway Designer for the Arkansas Highway Department, and member of the Arkansas Air National Guard, the Wilson Tigers of Central High School, and active member of the Mabelvale Church of Christ. He will be remembered by his family and friends as being an avid deer and turkey hunter.
He preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Beth Butler of Mabelvale; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Tim Percefull of Katy, Texas; grandsons, Matthew and Ben Percefull; a sister, Carolyn Meyer of Sherwood; a sister-inlaw, Claudia and husband Larry Meeks of Mabelvale; brother-inlaw, Ted Brooks and wife Julia of Mabelvale; one niece and two nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Mabelvale Church of Christ; burial will immediately follow the service at Butler Cemetery in Alexander. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at Huson Funeral Home in Little Rock.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Mabelvale Church of Christ, P.O. Box 345, Mabelvale, Ark. 72103; or Butler Cemetery/ James Abbott, 12719 Pine Ridge, Alexander, Ark. 72002.

The following obituary was furnished by S. G. Wilkerson and Sons Funeral Home: Dr. William Henry Cobb, V, 72, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at home.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Dr. Cobb was a retired Professor of French History with East Carolina University, and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
The family requests no flowers and that memorial contributions be made to the Organ Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 1400 S. Elm Street, Greenville, NC 27858.

The following obituary appeared in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Friday, July 23, 2010:

JOANN LOUISE COPE CORNELL passed away on July 21, 2010, in Little Rock, Ark. She was born March 20, 1938, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to the late Dr. Ellis and Elisabeth Kithcart Cope.
She was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School, class of 1956 and attended Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans where she earned her Registered Nurse Degree. Joann married Dr. Paul Cornell in 1959 in New Orleans. Joann was a past President of the Arkansas Medical Society Auxillary and a Board Member of the Florence Crittenton Home in Little Rock. For many years, Joann worked in her husband’s office and surgery. She enjoyed snow skiing, traveling and sewing. She retired briefly in Bondurant, Wyo., with her husband before returning to Little Rock after his death in 2000.
Survivors include three children: Mike Cornell and wife Angela Caperton Cornell, Beth Cornell Parham and husband Manuel, all of Little Rock, and Mark Cornell and wife Cynthia Granger Cornell of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren, Rob Pearson, Andrew Cornell, Patrick Cornell, Chris Keretz, Bradley Keretz, Daniel Keretz, Melissa Keretz, Nicholas Cornell and Lauren Cornell.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy. 5 North, Alexander, Ark., (501) 455-1067. A visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time. Joann will be buried with her husband at the Little Rock National Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Staff at Brookside Health and to Odyssey Hospice for the excellent care and love they gave Joann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Crittenton Home of Little Rock and or the Pulaski County Humane Society.

We learned of the death of Bill Raney today. The following obituary appeared in the Sacramento Bee on December 31, 2009.

William ''Bill'' Raney, of Gold River, CA on December 29, 2009, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at Kaiser Hospital at the age of 71. Bill was born in St. Louis, MO on December 14, 1938 to Troy and Nellie Raney. He grew up in Little Rock, AR and graduated from Central High School . He joined the Marine Corps before attending the University of Nevada, Reno, where he participated in the marching, swing and jazz bands. Bill worked in the television market in Reno, Nevada then moved to Sacramento in 1960 where he enjoyed a successful career at KXTV for 28 years. After working in television, Bill blended his natural artistic abilities and genuine love of people to create a successful public relations firm in 1988 from which he retired in 1998. Bill was an avid fan of jazz music and played the drums in many swing bands in the Sacramento area. He participated in the Sacramento Jazz Festival for many of those years. Bill was a member of the NRA and a avid sports shooter. He volunteered for many years at McCllean Air Park Museum where his knowledge of aviation was admired by fellow docents and park visitors, he also volunteered at Kaiser Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, JoAnn; daughter Jon Chesser and son-in-law Sam; son, Troy; grandson, Quinn; granddaughter, Caroline; stepsisters, Cheryl (George), Bonnie; JoAnne (Bobby), Sandy (Tony); stepmother Ada, sister-in-law Michael Ann Raney, his father Troy and brother CharlesRaney preceded him in death. At his request, no services will be held, arrangements have been made with the Nautilus Society. A memorial may be made in his name to the SPCA or the American River Parkway Foundation.

We recently learned of the death of classmate Bill Beasley. His obituary follows: William Earl Beasley, 70, of Alexander, AR, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009. He was born December 16, 1938, in Little Rock, to the late Jewel Earl and Connie Venita Beasley. A contractor all of his life, William was a member of the Local 690 of the Carpenter’s Union where he served as the treasurer for over seven years. He represented the union as a delegate in Washington, DC, in the early 1960s. William loved his family and his hobbies included taking photographs, camping and fishing. He also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and horse racing. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William Earl Beasley.
Survivors include six children, Deborah Buckalew (Robert), Peter Beasley, and John Beasley (Janice) all of Little Rock, Ronnie Davis of North Little Rock, Teresa Lee of Bryant, and Kristi Loyd (Glenn) of Marked Tree; five siblings, Kathleen Baswell (William), Bonnie Brand, Edward Beasley (Carol) and Gerald Beasley, all of Little Rock, and Barbara Leavendusky of Alexander; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Derek and Todd Beasley, Kayla Lee, Blake and Bruce Buckalew, Brandon and Christopher Lacefield, and Kassi Loyd; three great grandchildren, Jacoby, Haven and Kennedy Beasley; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy 5 North, Alexander (501-455-1067). A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 9301 N. Rodney Parham, Little Rock. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 AM at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the home of Deborah Buckalew, 31 Ledgelawn Drive, Little Rock (501-227-4656).

The following is the obituary for Tommy Nation: ROYAL — Thomas H. Nation, 71, of Royal, Ark. died on Thursday, April 22, 2010 in a local hospital. He was born on Jan. 20, 1939 in Los Angeles, Calif. to the late Horace A. and Mary Blossam Tolivar Nation.
He was a retired tool and dye maker with the Teletype Company in Little Rock, Ark., a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was of the Baptist faith.
For those of you who knew Tom, you knew a great man. He was a wonderful husband, a great father and most of all a great friend. Tommy as his friends called him never met a stranger and was loved by all. He will be truly missed by all of his family and friends.
He was predeceased by one grandson, William Andrew Nation.
Survivors include his wife Joanne Nation of Royal; four sons, Greg Nation of Maumelle, Ark., Anthony Wayne Nation of Springdale, Ark., Michael Andrew Nation of North Little Rock, Ark., and Lance Brown of Sherwood, Ark.; one daughter, Delana K. Brown Brinkley of Hensley, Ark.; one sister, Clair Ledbetter and her husband Bill Ledbetter of Conway, Ark.; and nine grandchildren.
Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the UAMS Brain Tumor Research in honor of Thomas H. Nation and Professor Gazi Yasargil.

PAUL EDWARD SHEPHERD
SR., age 71, of Mabelvale died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. He was born in Humnoke, Ark., on Sept. 12, 1938 to Louise Looney Shepherd and the late Clyde Shepherd. He is preceded in death by his father and two brothers: Cecil and Nicholas Shepherd. Paul was a Marine Corps veteran serving 11 years from 1957 until 1968 and had attended the Sandstone Church of Christ. He was a salesman during his employment career. Paul is survived by his wife of 43 years, Martha Priester Shepherd; by his two children: Paul Norman Shepherd Jr., (Marcia) of Lowell, Mass., and Paula Beasse (Chris) of Mabelvale; one grandson, Logan; his mother, Louise Red of Mabelvale; sister, Lillian Sisson of Mabelvale, and brother, Jim Shepherd (Joyce) of Mayflower; his dear friend, Ron Wallace and the Shannon Hills Fire Dept. as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth (5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock, Ark. 72204 ph#: 501-661-9111) with memorial funeral services on Thursday, 2 p.m., Oct. 29, 2009 at the funeral home. Graveside committal of his ashes will be at a later date in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.

The following obituary appeared in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Tuesday, October 13, 2009: CRUMROD — Patricia Ann Rose, age 71, claimed her heavenly mansion on October 12, 2009. Pat was the daughter of Genevieve and Walter Berry. Her lifelong love of music and beautiful voice touched the lives of many, including those of First Baptist Church of Lambrook, of which she was a member and the choir director. A graduate of Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., class of 1956, Pat later attended Ouachita Baptist University on a voice scholarship.
She was predeceased by her parents and one son, Douglas Patrick Kennedy. Pat is survived by her husband, Walter Louis Rose of Crumrod, Ark.; two sons & daughter-in-law, Sidney & Lisa Kennedy of Hot Springs and Lance Rose of Parkin, Ark.; two daughters & son-in-law, Donita & James Cunningham of Collierville, Tennessee and Evelyn (Sissy) Chappel of Forrest City, Ark.; one goddaughter, Candi Chambers of Dallas, Texas; many grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter.
Memorial will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, at Hot Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Her services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 24, at First Baptist Church of Lambrook in Lambrook, Ark. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials are to be sent to the church at P.O. Box 44, Lambrook Ark. 72353. Arrangements are by Hot Springs Funeral Home.

The following obituary for Shirley Short appeared in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on June 23, 2009: SHIRLEY BURKS, 71, of Little Rock, retired secretary, died June 15, 2009, in Little Rock. She is survived locally by her four sons, Dewell, Scott, Thomas Edward, and Michael “Chad” Burks, all of Central Arkansas. Cremation Services have been arranged by Huson Funeral Home in Little Rock.
