Name: David Duggan
After graduating from High School I started working for a company called Automatic Electric which was a subsidiary of General Telephone Company. I traveled around the country for about 6 years installing telephone switching systems and then landed a job in Illinois installing the same equipment until 1967. I then accepted a job in the engineering department of General Telephone Company in Bloomington Illinois. In 1974 I accepted a position in Central office construction (supervising Central Office installation forces) and that is what I did until 1993 when I retired.
I also became very interested in photography and in about 1980 became a professional photographer. I've been doing weddings, family portraits, children portraits and Class reunions for quite a few years.
In 2007 I stopped doing weddings. I'm still involved in photography and love creating images on my own while on trips out west in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana, Yosemite and Florida. (those are my favorites)

I am married to Brenda and have three children & 1 granddaughter.
Not an exciting life but a very good one.

Very Best Regards,
Dave

Hi,
The past 50 years literally flew by, In the last 50 or so years ,, God has blessed me far far more than i deserve. I have at times not given him the respect he deserves, But, for some unexplained and wierd reason,, God has chosen to take care of me, despite my lack of decision making at times. I am a chosen and blessed person.
I have been batting right at .500. as i have been married twice and only divorced once. My whole life changed on a December morning in 1956, when both Johnny Shaver (LRCHS67) decided to skip school after our homeroom class. brilliant idea Johnny had.
Johnny and i decided to go downtown and shoot pool and drink beer, all day.,. This all went well until, Johnny and i decided during this school day off that we needed to go to the old Post Office and Military reruiting station on 2nd sreet (downtown) and join the service. This really did seem like a great idea at the time to a couple of 16 years old kids, who needs school??, Not us , we were far far too smart.
I took all the required tests, easily passed, except ,i had to go home and get my parents to sign docunemts to allow me to enlist and leave for US Navy boot camp in San Diego,.
They signed to necessary documants and off i went to San Diego 4 days later,, on my 17th birthday,
Boy, did my life change, drastically and immediatly.
I loved the US Navy and litearlly traveled the world, I had sort of decided to stay in and make it a career, I was smart enough to study and obtain my GED . Good move on my part.
I came home to Little Rock in early 1960, found out that I really did want to stay home and not return to the Navy.so much for my long US Navy career.
I found my very first (outside of Jean Flake LRCHS56) true love at Gus Blass company , at 4ht and Main, Both my self and Annette Harper (LRCHS59) worked there . She might have been the cutest little blonde in LR at that time, or at least in my eyes she was.
We stayed together for 31 years.we had a lot of growing to do together. She was a special special person in my life, ,and i was blessed to have had the best times in my life with her. She raised both my sons. I was usually too busy working.
I lived in LR , got involved in the retail business , also went to UALR , which them was simply LRU , Trying to support a family by this time i had 2 sons , Todd Wayne born in 1963 , who now works in Austin Texas for the Coca Cola Company and Philip Steven born in 1964 in LR. who now works as a 2nd party service contracter for Motorola Instrumets also in Austin , Texas . I have 3 granchildren by these 2 sons that i am so so proud of. They all live in Austin .Texas. Incidentally, I am a far better grandparent than i was a father. I now have the time .. Obviously,, i had to leave LRU and accept a promotion and transfer to the upper East Coast and Virginia, 1965 This company i worked for was Wards Company the Largerst retiler of major appliances in the entire United States, Oh , incidentally, they gave you the title of Junior Executive Managemant Traineee ,,so the company could easily work you 80 hours per week and not have to pay you any overtime) Welcome to retail work in the 1960,s.
Hard work. moderate pay scale.
I stayed with Wards Co. and was a District manager over 8 stores in the the Washington DC Maryland, Pennsylvania area, when i finally got tired of being away from my family for so so long. Traveling literally Monday through late Thursday evening, was gettting to be too much.
I applied with Xerox Corp. which in those days was in its, infancy,. Xerox was the only copier company on this planet in 1971, I was hired on as a technician at a perfect time and the rest is history. ended up my Xerox career (i still work from time to time on a consulting basis with the Research and Development Systems Engineers) I was transferred to Austin, Texas , stayed with Xerox till in 1993, This was not a good year for me personally, ,I had a heart attack, had bypass surgery, ( far far too much burning the candles on BOTH ends) lost my long marriage, i was devastated mentally. Physically i was down and out also.
Left Austin Texas in 1995---moved to Houston , by myself to get away from it all. I then located (Gods will again) ,, as i really was not seriously looking for any female companionship, as i was sort of "'burned out". But , as usual God took care of me, as i now was introduced to my life long soul mate and present wife , "Ingrid "
I have certianly had more than my share of lifes ups and downs, I have handled them and learned from my mistakes..But, i feel so so fortunate that a few of your very active members of the class of LRCHS56, namely Syd Orton, Mary lou Cabbiness and Ronnie Smith , contacted me and invited me to the LRCHS 50th Class reunion ,This was 3 years ago.
No one , let me repeat ,, NO ONE , enjoyed them selves or had a better time at the reunion than i did, It was a enlightning experience.
I personally feel so lucky to have been a member of this class . I now know that ALL of us as schoolmates in LR through grammer school through LRCHS, were so so lucky to have been born and raised by our parents and teachers in the Little Rock area.
I simply can not imagine a area in this country where there are the deep and sincere feelings for our past classmates as there is with our schoolmates and past friends from LRCHS56 and Little Rock in general. Little Rock and Central High are special.
I look forward , very much in the future to attend other get togethers and and more reunions, with you all , my personal and special friends.
I still stay very busy ,do not have a lot of hobbies as i am still employed. I am looking forward to the 55th reunion of the class of 1956.
My thanks to you for allowing me to post my short and sort of uninteresting bio on your web site,
